Who We Are

Care. Comfort. Security.
At The Independence House we celebrate the joys of yesterday, the accomplishments of today and the hope that comes with each new day.

We believe in caring for the whole person, not just the person with memory loss. Our focus on care, comfort and security is evident in all we do.

Care
Our residents are part of a family: a family that cares for each other in a loving and nurturing manner. The comfort of familiar faces and a family environment create a sense of calm and peace for our residents and we strive to make each resident feel at home while in our care.

Just like a traditional family, we also recognize everyone’s differences and what makes us unique.

Learning about our residents’ likes, dislikes, hobbies and interests allows us to develop individual care plans ; some may like to garden while others find peace at the piano, playing cards or working on a craft project. Activities that are familiar and enjoyable increase the quality of life for your loved one and provide a sense of well-being and accomplishment. Photos

Your loved one is part of a community at The Independence House. Our community comes together in a variety of ways to support each other, learn from one another and have fun! Group activities are a big part of our community life. From cooking, sing-a-longs, game time to gardening and outdoor excursions, we offer a variety of activities designed to encourage social contact and provide new opportunities for stimulation.

Family and friends are also important for a fulfilling life and we encourage participation in your loved one’s daily activities within the community. For example, our potluck suppers are an excellent time for residents and their loved ones to come together and socialize with the extended family at The Independence House. Our residents enjoy sharing their accomplishments with others and the team of The Independence House enjoy learning more about our residents through the stories and memories of family and friends.

We also understand the ongoing needs of friends and family members. Our support groups will help you reach out to others whose experiences are similar to yours. Knowing you aren’t alone can help you understand the unique aspects of caring for a loved one with memory loss. Working together as a family, we can make the precious time you and your loved one spend together memorable.

Comfort
Our residents enjoy living in a family-like setting. Our private and companion rooms give your loved one a feeling of independence and provide you the peace of mind knowing help is footsteps away.

Life is made up of many things: family, friends, treasured mementos, pictures and, of course, memories. Surrounding oneself with things that are familiar while living in a comfortable, relaxing environment helps our residents feel at home.

We encourage residents to fill their rooms with personal treasures and items that reflect their wonderful life experiences: a favorite pillow, a framed family portrait, vacation snapshots or a child’s artwork can help your loved one feel happy and secure in their new home.

Combining familiar surroundings, loving family members, friends and the greater family at The Independence House, your loved one will experience all the comforts of home while receiving the compassionate care they require for a fulfilling life.

Security
When you choose a home for your loved one, you want peace of mind knowing they are in a safe environment. At The Independence House we closely monitor each resident while still allowing them freedom and access to various parts of the community.

For those with memory loss, walking is often relaxing and familiar. To keep your loved one safe, our houses are designed so residents can wander without the risk of leaving the facility. Coded entryways and exits keep residents safe and secure at all time and our caring team of professionals monitors activities to ensure their safety.
